What To Do When You’re Feeling STUCK In A Love Rut

Sometimes an outside perspective is all it takes.

You get up at the same time every day, go to work on the same route, eat lunch at the same places with the same co-workers, arrive home exhausted, fix the same boring meals for dinner, collapse in front of the TV to catch up on the same shows, then trudge to bed far too weary to even think about sex with your sweetie.

Even weekends are fraught with routine, not happiness. You have to clean the house, do the laundry, pay the bills, take the kids to soccer practice, mow the lawn, bathe the dog — everything that gets ignored during the workweek has to be addressed on your days off.

Does this hamster wheel existence sound familiar?

What about your relationship or lack there of?

What happened to all the fun you used to have with your spouse? Where did that sex-at-the-drop-of-a-hat couple go? Most days you feel like roommates instead of lovers, and that bond, that chemistry, that spark sadly seems to be a thing of the past.

You still love each other, and both your faces have that look of desperation — the ache for change, the need to feel wanted and desired again.

Better yet, you haven’t been on a decent date in months and are loosing hope that you’ll ever really find the one?

Feeling stuck is a sign that it’s time to make a change. Something has to give.

You have choices. Excuses are standing somewhere between you and the changes you want — the changes you need. Life isn’t meant to be the same damn routine day in and day out!

You may feel like you have no control over your monotonous job, or the routines that must exist to keep your home and family functioning, but you do have control over how you prioritize your love life.

Make your relationship goals as important as your life goals!

Make your relationship just as important as your job, your health, your children, your friendships, if not more important.

I discuss the topic in length with my fellow experts, Melanie Gorman (YourTango Experts Senior VP) is joined by Author John Gray, Relationship Coach Ravid Yosef, Psychic/Medium Bee Herz and Sex Coach Lauren Brim.
